Jones, Monty Patrick, Dr.

Born in 1951, Sierra Leone

Dr. Jones obtained his PhD in 1983 from the University of Birmingham in UK. Currently, he is member of the Africa Vision 2020 committee. He began his professional research career at the National Rice Research Station at Rokupr in Sierra Leone in 1975 where he pioneered research in rice breeding and rice varietal improvement program.

Later, he was successively appointed at the IITA station in Cameroon and at the West Africa Rice research Association (WARDA) where he coordinated rice research projects and initiated the biotechnology program. He was Deputy Director of Research and Executive Secretary of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) in Ghana.

Since his appointment at FARA, he has been actively involved in creating awareness that coordinated efforts in agricultural research for development and increased African ownership that would enhance effective African Agricultural research. He has national and international awards and recognitions, also has collaborations with professional organizations and Scientific Institutions. He has 49 publications.

Terry, Eugene Robert, Dr.

Born in 1937, Sierra Leone

Dr Terry obtained his M.Sc. in 1964 from the McGill University of Montreal (Canada) and PhD in 1970 from the University of Illinois (USA). He then joined the Department of Biology of Njala University College (Sierra Leone).

He has elucidated the ethiology and epidemiolgy of the cassava mosaic bacterial blight and anthracnose diseases of cassava and the virus diseases of sweet potatoes.

He developed effective management strategies for the diseases now used throughout the humid tropics. He has served at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) as Plant Pathologist and Scientist, Assistant Director then  Director of the International Cooperation and Training Program; at the West Africa Rice Development Association (WARDA) as Director General and at the CGIAR International Agricultural Research and Science Centre as Director General of the Centre.

He is the founding member of the International Society of Tropical Root Crops-Africa Branch (ISTRC-AB) and founding member of the Sierra leone Agricaltural Society. He has been Editor-in-Chief and Senior Editor of the Proceedings of the ISTRC-AB. He is member of the Nigeria Society for Plant Protection and member of the American Phytopathological Society . He has 45 publications
